Arsenal showing keen interest in £5m striker
Arsenal are showing an interest in Southampton striker Rickie Lambert.
Arsene Wenger is still on the look out for a new striker to add to his side during this month’s transfer window and despite being linked with a host of top strikers from all over England and Europe, rumours suggest that the 29 year old Lambert could well be on the Frenchman’s agenda.
A strange choice for Wenger you might think, but Lambert has found scoring goals extremely easy in the Championship this season after being a prolific goalscorer during Southampton’s time in League One. I’m sure Lambert would welcome the opportunity to challenge himself at the highest level and a move up to the Premier League with Arsenal would offer him such an opportunity.
Southampton obviously won’t be too keen on selling their prolific striker, however £5m is a fantastic amount of money for someone who just a year ago was only worth £1m.
We’ve seen a lot of Championship clubs failing to hold on to their assets in recent times and if the right offer comes in and player’s heads get turned, there’s usually a certain predictability about the outcome!
If Lambert joined Arsenal he wouldn’t neccessarily become a regular first-team member, however over time I feel he could have a shot at breaking into the team and becoming a competant Premier League striker.
