Arsene Wenger “close” to completing first signing of the summer
Wenger close to bringing world class player to the Emirates.
Arsenal are set to seal the signing of Lukas Podolski, as the player underwent a medical ahead of his proposed summer switch to the Emirates.
Reports last week suggested that the German international had already agreed a switch to the North London club, though both FC Koln and Arsenal denied this was the case. It is believed the two clubs are edging closer to a deal though, with a fee of £10.8 million agreed between the two clubs. Podolski underwent a medical as Arsenal representatives flew out to Germany to finalise the smaller details of the move.
The early signing of Podolski will come as a boost to the club, indeed Gunners fans can now look forward to the end of the season with optimism. It could persuade the likes of Robin Van Persie that his future lies in England, as the Dutchman wants to see big name signings brought in to boost the side’s chances of winning trophies in the future.
Podolski as an experienced German international certainly fits the bill in this respect, while supporters will hope his less experienced international teammate Mario Gotze decides to follow suit and make the move to England.
