AC Milan targeting Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech
Petr Cech is undoubtedly one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League however there has been strong reports coming out of Italy that AC Milan are extremely keen to sign the giant Czech stopper.
Abbiati has been in poor form this season and the AC faithful are becoming more and more agitated by their goalkeeping woes. The 34-year-old veteran is causing a lot of grief for the red and black half of Milan. They have been scouting the world in an attempt to sort out their goalkeeping problem and with the help of Berlusconi’s cheque book a large bid, thought to be in the region of £25 million is expected to be made for Petr Cech.
Chelsea are expected to accept the bid as they feel that their young acquisition Thibaut Coutouis has been proving himself superbly out on loan to Athletico Madrid. The Chelsea hierarchy have been reportedly speaking to Milan about the potential move for their current goalkeeper.
Courtouis has been near faultless for Athletico this season, keeping 4 clean sheets this La Liga season, something which has not gone unnoticed at Stamford Bridge. This has led Cech to become increasingly worried about his long-term future at the club, and reports suggest he recently held a meeting with Assistant Manager Roberto Di Matteo over the issue.
This move would sadden Chelsea fans greatly as Cech has been a stalwart in their side for 8 years now, since the arrival of The Special One, but the club feel it is time to move on and his deteriorating performances of late can be attributed to this. The André Villas-Boas revolution has seen massive changes at Chelsea but this could be the biggest and most shocking so far.
If AC Milan can pull off this signing, they will become a force to be reckoned with in Italy and Europe as it really does seem to be just the goalkeeping area in which they have major weaknesses. As for Chelsea, Courtouis has very big boots to fill.
